How to tackle moth season

Natural Moth Prevention | Queen of Clean

Moth season in the UK runs from May until October, but don't wait for the flutter to start! Here are my natural top tips to prevent infestations and keep your wardrobes and carpets moth-free.

Wardrobes & Cupboards

Moths love dark, quiet spaces. Use these natural deterrents to keep them from nesting in your favourite clothes:

  • Natural Oils: Wipe neat Eucalyptus Oil onto the inside of wardrobe doors, or pop some fresh lavender into mesh bags and hang them up.
  • Cedarwood: These cedarwood rings are fantastic eco-friendly products. Hang them on hangers or tuck them into drawers to keep pests at bay for up to 3 months.
  • The Freeze Method: If you spot signs of larvae, seal the item in plastic bags and pop it in the freezer for 24 hours. This is a surefire way to kill off the eggs!

Carpet Care

If your carpet is fraying or has small white patches, moths have moved in! Keep rooms cool and use a steam cleaner to kill off eggs hidden under furniture. Moths hate natural light, so keep those curtains open!

DIY Fabric Spray

Mix together lavender oil, white vinegar, and water in a spray bottle for a natural protective spray. Lightly spritz your carpets and rugs daily.

PRO TIP: Always wash infested clothes on the hottest setting possible using a good detergent and use the highest heat in your dryer to ensure no larvae survive!
