Where Should I Start When Spring Cleaning My Whole House?

Spring is finally here, and there’s just something about a bit of sunshine that makes you want to open the windows, freshen everything up and get your home back on track.

But when you’re looking at the whole house, it can feel a bit overwhelming — where do you even start?

The key is to keep it simple, go room by room, and focus on the jobs that make the biggest difference first. And remember, this isn’t a punishment it’s a reset. It should feel good.

Start at the Front – First Impressions Matter

I always say, start with your hallway and entrance. It sets the tone for the whole home and is often the most overlooked area.

Front Door Refresh

Give your front door a good clean with warm soapy water it instantly lifts the look of your home and makes everything feel fresher before you’ve even stepped inside.

Declutter Shoes & Coats

Pack away heavy winter boots, coats and scarves. Use vacuum storage bags to save space and lighten up the area.

Don’t Forget the Hidden Dust

Run a radiator brush behind and between your radiators dust builds up here all winter and can affect how fresh your home feels.

Move Into the Kitchen – The Heart of the Home

The kitchen is a big one, but once it’s done, you’ll feel amazing.

Cupboard Clear Out

Take everything out, check dates, wipe shelves and only put back what you actually use. It makes such a difference.

Fridge Freshen

Pop a small bowl of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge to absorb any lingering smells and give it a proper wipe out.

Appliances Matter

Run cleaning cycles on your:

  • Washing machine

  • Dishwasher

  • Coffee machine

A clean appliance works better and smells fresher.

Oven Deep Clean

Tackle your oven it’s one of those jobs we put off, but once it’s done, it feels so worth it.

Bathroom Reset – Fresh and Clean

Bathrooms don’t take long, but they make a huge impact.

Focus on the details — taps, mirrors, and tiles — and the whole room will feel brighter.

Living Room Refresh

This is where we relax, so it should feel clean and comfortable.

  • Vacuum under cushions and along sofa edges

  • Move furniture slightly to get to hidden dust

  • Wipe walls behind sofas and units (you’ll be surprised what builds up!)

Give rugs a refresh either a good vacuum or a deeper clean if needed.

A quick spritz of fabric spray on cushions can also lift the whole room.

Bedrooms – Your Calm Space

Your bedroom should feel like a proper reset.

Mattress Refresh

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over your mattress, leave it for an hour, then vacuum it off to freshen.

Flip or Rotate

Turn your mattress to help it wear evenly.

Curtains & Soft Furnishings

Use a handheld steamer to freshen curtains while they’re hanging it removes creases and helps kill bacteria.

Pack away heavier winter bedding and bring in lighter layers.

Windows – Let the Light In

Clean windows make such a difference, especially in spring when the light starts coming through more.

Top tip:

  • Clean on a cloudy day to avoid streaks

  • Wipe in one direction with a clean microfibre cloth for a streak-free finish

Keep It Manageable

You don’t need to do everything in one day.

Break it down:

  • One room at a time

  • Or even 15–30 minute bursts

It’s all about making it feel achievable, not overwhelming.
