Bad Cleaning Habits you Need to Break

Breaking Bad Cleaning Habits | Queen of Clean
A clean and organized home workspace

Let’s be honest, most of us don’t enjoy cleaning and if we can speed it up and make it easier, we sure will. But cutting corners is not always the best and can end up making your cleaning even harder!

Break the Habits, Find the Flow

If you have developed a few bad habits now is the time to start breaking them so you can develop a faster easier cleaning routine. Start breaking these habits one at a time and you will soon have a clean clutter-free home.

Stop the Paper Mountain

Post, bills, and school letters have a habit of building up. Sort them as soon as they come in. Use a paper organiser and stick to online banking where you can to stop that mountain from building up.

Less is Always More

Using too much product can cause more harm than good. Residue becomes a dirt magnet, trapping dust and leaving streaks. Remember, a little always goes a long way and saves you time and money. Invest in quality microfibre cloths to do the heavy lifting instead!

Bathroom & Kitchen Habits

Wet Towels and Shower Curtains: Don't leave shower curtains bunched up; pull them across the bath so they dry quickly and stop mould build up. Hang towels to dry on a heated towel rail before folding—in summer, let the sunshine disinfect them outside!

Don’t Leave Dirty Dishes: Put mugs straight into the dishwasher. Leaving plates in the sink is a breeding ground for bacteria and makes your kitchen look untidy. Encourage everyone in the house to get into this simple habit.

GOLDEN RULE: Always dust last! Dust falls like snow, so use an extendable duster to start at the highest point of the room and work your way down.

Protect Your Results

Clean the Cleaners

A dirty vacuum or mop head won't give you good results. Schedule time once a month to use a washing machine cleaner and dishwasher cleaner to keep them fresh and efficient. Don't forget to empty your vacuum!

Shoes Off!

The few seconds it takes to remove your shoes will save you vacuuming time and keep bacteria and germs at the door. Use good quality door mats to soak up mud in the wintertime.

Final Touches

Make Your Bed: After airing your bed, get into the habit of making it. If you are short of time, keep it simple with fewer fancy cushions. Even younger children can join in with this one! For more secrets, grab one of my books to transform your routine!
