Cleaning safety and supplies

Working with chemicals means reaching into every nook and cranny, but you have to be careful! As a former professional cleaner, I’ve put together these essential safety tips to ensure you enjoy a clean home safely.

Essential Safety Rules

Never play scientist with your cleaning caddy. If you aren't 100% positive about a mixture, DON'T do it!

  • NEVER mix Bleach and Vinegar: This creates toxic chlorine gas. Keep your bleach and vinegar separate!
  • NEVER mix Bleach and Ammonia: Check your washing up liquid labels as many contain ammonia—mixing them is dangerous for your lungs.
  • Label Everything: Always label your spray bottles with the name and the date you made them.
  • Ignore Bad Advice: Never boil Zoflora! For a fresh scent, simply boil water with slices of lemon in a saucepan.

My Natural Cleaning Heroes

White Vinegar & Bicarb

Vinegar is a staple for windows and taps. Bicarbonate of soda is your go-to natural deodoriser—perfect for scrubbing baths or lifting grease from carpets.

Juicy Lemons

One of the most powerful non-toxic cleaners! Use half a lemon to rub over shower doors to remove mildew, or add lemon juice to your laundry for bright whites.

PRO TIP: Protect your family by storing products in high cupboards with child-proof latches. Always dispose of used rags immediately!
