Cleaning with Vodka
I love to make my own cleaning products using what I already have in the kitchen cupboards. Bicarbonate of soda, salt, lemon, and white wine vinegar are favorites, but did you know that Vodka makes a powerful disinfectant and degreaser?
Vodka: The Secret Cleaning Powerhouse
One of my favourite uses for Vodka is tackling stains, but it’s brilliant for so much more. Here is how to use it as a cleaning product instead of a cocktail!
- Linen Spray: Add vodka, water, and essential oils to a spray bottle to freshen upholstery. The alcohol smell evaporates quickly!
- Soap Scum & Water Marks: Spray neat vodka onto shower doors, tiles, and taps. Leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
- Sticky Labels: Use neat vodka on a microfibre cloth to easily remove residue from new shoes or sticker explosions on doors.
- Stains: Keep a small bottle in your laundry cupboard! It’s brilliant at removing blood, grass, sick, and felt pen stains from clothing.
- Glass & Chrome: Neat vodka brings a high shine to glass, chrome, and even jewellery.
Garden & Home
Mix vodka and water to spray and kill unwanted weeds. You can also add a drop to your flower vase—it helps keep flowers fresh for longer and perks up wilting stems!
Kitchen Degreaser
Add a few drops to greasy oven trays or pots. The alcohol cuts right through the grease, making your scrubbing a whole lot easier.
PRO TIP: Always test a small inconspicuous patch first when using vodka on fabrics, but you should be absolutely fine. It's a fantastic natural deodoriser!
