How to clean a shower

Let’s be honest no one wants to spend hours scrubbing the bathroom. The goal is always minimal effort, maximum sparkle, and with the right routine in place, it’s completely achievable.

By using a few simple products and building easy habits into your weekly clean, you can keep grime, limescale, and bacteria well under control without the overwhelm.

Let’s get your shower looking fresh, clean, and gleaming again! 💛

1. Targeted Grime & Grout Busting

If your grout is looking a little tired or your shower is starting to lose its shine, this is where to start.

Spray white vinegar directly onto the grout and leave it to sit for around 10 minutes. This helps break down soap scum and any built-up residue, making it much easier to remove.

Then go in with a grout brush something with a small, firm head works best so you can really get into those lines properly.

For taps and chrome, I love using a gentle paste cleaner to lift watermarks and bring back the shine. Finish with a bathroom spray and buff dry for that polished, streak-free finish.

2. Plumbing Health & Seal Sanitisation

The Plughole Reset

Your plughole is one of those areas that’s easy to forget but keeping it clear makes a huge difference.

Once a month, use a drain snake to remove any trapped hair and buildup. Follow this with a plughole cleaner to keep everything flowing properly and help prevent any unwanted smells.

It’s a quick job that saves bigger problems later on.

Seal Restoration

Rubber seals can quickly collect grime and moisture, so giving them a little attention really lifts the whole look of your shower.

Use a small brush or toothbrush with a paste of bicarbonate of soda to gently scrub along the seals. This helps remove dirt while freshening everything up.

Once you’re done, buff down the walls and edges with a dry microfibre cloth this step is key for preventing watermarks and keeping everything looking spotless.

  • Use a squeegee daily to prevent limescale build-up

  • Polish glass with a dedicated glass cloth for a streak-free finish

  • Decant vinegar into a spray bottle for a neat, professional setup

  • Always finish with a dry microfibre wipe-down after cleaning

3. The Shower Head Reset & Limescale Care

If your shower head is spraying unevenly or losing pressure, limescale is usually the cause but it’s an easy fix.

Fill a small bag with white vinegar, place it over the shower head, and secure it with a band. Leave it overnight and let it do the work for you. By morning, the limescale will have broken down, and your water flow should be back to normal.

For the shower tray, apply a limescale remover to any areas where water tends to sit especially corners and edges. Let it sit before rinsing for the best results.

These small maintenance steps make such a difference and help keep your shower looking fresh without heavy scrubbing.
