Lemon and Bicarb the ultimate scrubber
I absolutely love using a lemon and bicarbonate of soda for a natural cleaning solution. Lemons contain citric acid, which helps break down grease and stains, while bicarb acts as a gentle abrasive and deodoriser.
The Ultimate Sink Scrub: Step-by-Step
Grab your lemons later in the day from the supermarket where they are often price dropped!
- Cut the Lemon: Cut a fresh, juicy lemon in half.
- Sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda: Sprinkle a small amount of bicarbonate of soda directly onto the cut side.
- Scrub: Use the lemon half to scrub the sink surface, focusing on stains, limescale, and grime.
- Rinse and Wipe: Once finished, rinse thoroughly with water to remove residue.
- Dry and Polish: Use a clean microfibre cloth to dry and bring up a beautiful shine.
- Dispose: Pop the used lemon in your compost bin for a fresh citrus scent.
Why it Works
This method is an environmentally friendly way to deep clean and deodorise without harsh chemicals. It’s effective, cheap, and leaves your kitchen smelling amazing!
A Word of Caution
Be careful on natural stone sinks! Citric acid can damage marble or granite over time. If you have a stone sink, check out my specialist stone cleaners instead.
PRO TIP: For tougher stains or mineral deposits, use a soft scrub brush alongside your lemon and bicarb mixture.
