Simple shaving foam hacks

What Are the Most Surprising Ways to Clean with Shaving Foam?

This is one of those products that really surprises people but shaving foam is actually a brilliant little cleaner to have in your cupboard.

It’s affordable, easy to pick up (even supermarket own brands work perfectly), and it’s especially good for tackling grease, stains and odours.

It’s not something you’d use for everything, but for certain jobs, it works so well and once you try it, you’ll always keep a can handy.

Why Does It Work?

Shaving foam is designed to break down oils (that’s how it softens hair), so it’s really effective on:

  • Greasy marks

  • Makeup stains

  • Everyday grime

It’s also gentle enough to use on a range of surfaces, which makes it really versatile.

Brighten Up Tile Grout

If your grout is looking a bit dull, shaving foam is a great quick fix.

Apply it along the grout lines, give it a light scrub with an old toothbrush, leave it for a few minutes, then wipe away with a damp cloth.

It lifts dirt and freshens everything up without loads of effort.

Stop Mirrors Steaming Up

Such a good one for busy mornings.

Apply a thin layer of shaving foam to your mirror, leave it for around 30 seconds, then buff it off with a clean cloth.

It helps stop condensation sticking, so your mirror stays clearer for longer after a shower.

Lift Carpet and Upholstery Stains

Shaving foam works really well on soft furnishings.

Apply a small amount to the stain, gently work it in with a soft brush or cloth, leave it to sit, then blot it away.

It’s great for things like:

  • Makeup

  • Small spills

  • Everyday marks

Always patch test first, but it’s a handy one to have in mind.

Polish Stainless Steel

For taps, appliances and sinks, shaving foam can help bring back the shine.

Apply a small amount to a cloth, buff the surface, then wipe clean. It helps remove marks and leaves a nice finish without streaks.

Freshen Around the Toilet Base

This is one people often don’t think about — but it makes a big difference.

Odours can build up around the base of the toilet. Apply shaving foam around the bottom area, leave it for 15–20 minutes, then wipe away with a warm cloth.

It helps neutralise smells and freshen the whole area.

Clean and Shine Jewellery

Shaving foam is gentle enough to use on jewellery.

Rub a small amount over your pieces, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. It helps lift dirt and restore a bit of shine.

(Just avoid very delicate or specialist items.)

Tackle Small Marks on Suede

If you’ve got light marks or oil spots on suede, shaving foam can help.

Use a tiny amount, gently work it in, then wipe away carefully. It can help lift the mark without soaking the material.

A Few Handy Tips

  • Always patch test first, especially on fabrics

  • Use a small amount you don’t need much

  • Stick to basic shaving foam, not gels or heavily fragranced versions
