Don’t abandon that old-fashioned bar of soap lurking in your cupboard! It can be used for some fabulous things around your home, from loosening zips to saving the day when you run out of laundry detergent.

Freshen Your Drawers

Grate up some soap and pop it into little mesh bags. Place them in your underwear drawers or in your car for a lovely fresh scent.

Fog-Free Mirrors

Rub a dry bar of soap over your bathroom mirror (no water!). Buff away with a clean, dry microfibre cloth for fog-free glass.

Quick Stain Remover

Dampen the stain and rub the soap bar directly over it. Leave for a few minutes before rinsing away. It works wonders if you act quickly!

Freshen Up Trainers

Sprinkle some grated soap into smelly shoes and leave overnight. Simply bash them out in the morning to banish stubborn odours.

Emergency Laundry Detergent

If you run out of detergent, don't reach for the washing up liquid! Make this instead:

  • Grate 20ml of soap into 150ml of warm water.
  • Shake well to dissolve and let it sit for an hour.
  • Keep the rest in an airtight container for next time.
PRO TIP: Soap acts as a fantastic lubricant for household stickiness!
