Tired of Pesky Flies ruining outside dinning
Being honest I was sceptical with this one but after two goes, for us this worked—no flies and no wasps! It could be pure coincidence but it's certainly worth a try to keep your outdoor dining peaceful.
The Pennies-in-Water Hack
This is such a simple and effective hack for those sunny days in the garden:
- Prepare: Fill up a few clear glass tumblers with water.
- Add Pennies: Place some pennies at the bottom of the glasses.
- Position: Place these glasses around your table and even among the plates of food strategically.
How it works: The concept is based on the idea that sunlight refracting through the water and pennies creates a visually confusing pattern for flies, whose compound eyes are sensitive to light and motion. It may even mimic the movement of predators!
Keep it Clean
While the pennies help, it’s essential to keep your outside space clean. Clear away any food scraps, spills, and rubbish promptly using a good antibacterial cleaner to discourage flies from gathering.
Natural Deterrents
Consider using citronella candles, essential oil diffusers, or fly fans. Flies are much less likely to land in areas with a steady breeze or repellent scents.
Other Solutions to Try
- Cover Food: Use mesh screens to protect your food. This prevents flies from landing and helps maintain freshness.
- Eliminate Breeding Sites: Ensure compost piles and outside dust bins are well-contained and regularly cleaned.
- Manage Expectations: No single method can guarantee complete prevention, so use a comprehensive approach!
