Christmas Stains

Christmas Stain Busting Guide | Queen of Clean
Festive Christmas Scene

Christmas can bring with it a lot of mess and one of the biggest messes is stains! I have put together my Christmas stain busting guide so you can deal with those pesky stains quickly and get on with enjoying the rest of your festive activities.

Festive Stain Busting

Red Wine

Do NOT chuck white wine over it! Use cold water and hydrogen peroxide (patch test first!) to dab carpets. For clothes, spray with white vinegar and soak in ice-cold water. If all else fails, Wine No More is yet to fail me.

Candle Wax

Scrape off excess with a blunt knife. Cover the rest with brown paper or kitchen roll and apply heat with an iron or hair dryer. The wax liquidises and lifts right off! This works on walls too—just wipe with a soapy cloth after heating.

Hot Chocolate

Rinse clothing under cold water from the reverse side. Pre-treat with liquid detergent for 20 minutes before washing. For carpets, blot from the outside in with a mixture of warm water and washing up liquid.

Christmas Glam

Lipstick on napkins? Grab your micellar water! Cover the stain, let it soak for 10 minutes, and rinse away. Liquid laundry detergent also works as a great pre-treatment.

Kitchen & Hearth Messes

Soot & Ash

Sprinkle carpet stains with bicarbonate of soda for an hour to absorb the mess, then vacuum. If it remains, use a specialized Dr Beckmann cleaner.

Cooking Grease

Pop washing up liquid on the stain immediately—it’s a degreaser! Let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse, and wash. Add a few drops of lemon juice for extra grease-fighting power.

PRO TIP: For Cranberry sauce on your tablecloth, spray with white vinegar and rub in washing up liquid before blotting with a white cloth!
