How to look after your swimwear this summer
Swimwear can be expensive and learning how to take care of your items is important to keep them looking great all summer. Whether you use your swimsuit daily or just once in a while, the fabric can take a beating from pool chemicals, hot tubs, sand, and sun creams.
Rinse and Refresh
As you come out of the sea or pool, make sure you rinse your swimwear so that all of the salt and chemicals are washed out. When you're at the beach, don't be tempted to lay it out on a rock to dry—the salt will stop it from drying fully and the sun will make the colour fade.
Quick Rinsing
You can rinse your costume while wearing it if there’s a beach side shower, or find a public bathroom sink. If all else fails, use a bucket with some bottled water to give it a good rinse.
No Wringing!
Always wrap your swimwear in a towel and squeeze the water out. Roll it into the towel rather than wringing it, as wringing can bend wires, ruin padding, and lead to a "saggy bottom" by overstretching the material.
Washing Your Favourites
When you get home, you can use the washing machine, but follow these steps to keep the fabric delicate:
- Use a Bag: Zip your swimwear inside a laundry bag to prevent other items from rubbing against the fabric.
- Gentle Detergent: Use a delicate detergent. If your suit has beads or appliques, it is best to wash it by hand.
- Extra Rinse: Ensure all detergent is out, as leftover soap can damage hi-tech fabrics. Put it through an extra rinse cycle if you aren't sure.
Follow these rules and your swimwear should look just as good at the end of the summer as it did at the beginning. Thanks for reading!
