How to keep your towels soft and fluffy

Towel Care Guide | Queen of Clean
Freshly Rolled Soft Towels

We all love a nice fluffy soft towel when getting out of a luxurious bubble bath, but they can often become dull and crispy if not looked after well. With a life expectancy of 5 to 10 years for a good quality towel, here is how to make yours last!

The Golden Rules of Towel Care

The First Wash

Always wash new towels alone before use. They’ve been handled in shops and treated with chemicals for a sleek finish! Use a cold wash with detergent, then tumble dry on low to get them ready for your bathroom.

Ditch the Conditioner

Stop using fabric conditioner on your towels! It wears down the fibres and makes them much less absorbent. Stick to a gentle detergent without additives to protect the quality and colour.

Top Washing Tips

  • Separate Loads: Always wash towels separately from other garments in their own dedicated basket.
  • Stink & Softness: Add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda for fluffiness and a capful of white vinegar for strong odours.
  • Frequency: Wash your towels at least once a week—or 3 to 4 times if you're a clean freak like me!
  • Drying: Tumble dry on a low setting and remove while slightly damp to keep them supple. If drying outside, keep them in the shade to prevent the sun from bleaching the colour.
PRO TIP: Never leave towels on the floor! Hanging them in an aired bathroom keeps mould and mildew at bay, keeping them fresh for much longer.
