How to stop birds pooping on your washing

Keeping Birds Away From Your Washing | Queen of Clean
Washing drying on a line

Birds love nothing more than pooping on your dry clean washing, which causes nothing but stress! My washing always smells so good too, and I really don’t want to be scrubbing bird poo—it is actually very dangerous. Histoplasmosis is a respiratory disease that can come from bird poo and it can even be fatal.

Tackling My Bird Phobia

My bird phobia is really bad; I struggle to walk down the high street and even sit in my own garden if I hear a rustle or a flap! No wonder my neighbours think I am mad. So, what can we do to stop birds from ruining our fresh clean washing? My lovely social media followers sent me some amazing ideas to share with you.

Garden Deterrents

Birds are scared of owls, so you could invest in some Garden Owls or reflective hanging owls. You can also hang old unwanted CDs around the garden; they don't like the reflection or the clicking sounds!

Clever Solutions

Bird Tape is an effective deterrent that emits a vibration birds won't go near. Hanging chimes or twisting scare rods also work wonders and look great too.

Quick Tips for Your Washing Line

  • Change Position: If your line is near a fence, wall, or tree where birds land, move it further away.
  • Line Protectors: Invest in a washing line protector. These are great for keeping birds away and protecting your clothes from the rain too!
PRO TIP: If you have a severe phobia like me, these non-moving deterrents are a great way to protect your garden without having to deal with the real thing!

If like me you are struggling with bird poop in your garden, then I hope these ideas can help. A massive thank you to my followers for helping me put these together.

Happy Washing,
Lynsey Queen of Clean xoxo
