Stop drying your clothes on your radiators
Radiators will dry your clothing quickly, but you’ll be storing up potential problems in your home. The moisture from the wet clothing has to go somewhere; it doesn’t just magically vanish!
The Cost of Inefficiency
Your radiator is trying to reach a certain temperature, but you’re plugging the upstream heat of your whole system. Your boiler then has to struggle to heat the room using a radiator whose cycle is blocked by your washing.
Higher Bills
Radiators are not designed for drying clothes. Using them this way renders them inefficient, leading to increased energy consumption and higher electricity bills. Your bank account won't be any better off!
Mould Growth
Mould thrives in damp, humid environments. When moist air from drying clothes hits cold surfaces like windows or walls, it condenses into droplets, creating favourable conditions for mould.
Effective Drying Tips
Modern homes are vulnerable to condensation because double glazing and better insulation mean there is no air escaping. Here is how to dry your clothes properly:
- Ventilation is Key: Use a designated laundry room or a room with windows and good airflow.
- Air Circulation: Use drying racks near an open window or outside if weather permits.
- Boost Airflow: Use fans or open windows to improve air circulation during the drying process.
- Dehumidify: Use a dehumidifier which will cost you an average of 14p to run.
Stick to a well-ventilated area and keep those radiators free to do their actual job—keeping you warm! Thanks for reading.
