Hands up if you hate oven cleaning
Oven cleaning is one of the most hated household tasks, but once you close that door, the grease is out of sight, out of mind! I'm a traditionalist—after a Sunday roast, I'm straight in with my gloves to keep things sparkling.
The Natural Bicarb & Vinegar Method
If you prefer to steer away from harsh chemicals, this natural duo is incredibly effective at lifting ground-in grease:
- Dampen: Spray the whole oven and glass door with a water bottle until damp.
- Apply Bicarb: Pour on a thick layer of bicarbonate of soda. You want about a 1/4 inch paste on the bottom. Mist any dry patches with water.
- Spray Vinegar: Spritz neat white vinegar liberally over the bicarb. It will react and fizz—this is it working its magic!
- Sit & Wait: Close the door and leave for a few hours.
- Remove: Use a spatula to scrape out the residue. Ensure all bicarb is gone so it doesn't smoke when you next turn the oven on!
My Favourite Products
Scrub Daddy Power Paste
Biodegradable and non-toxic, this lemon-scented power paste is marvellous. Just dampen the sponge, swirl on the paste, and use with a scrubber to remove debris effortlessly.
Oven Pride & Astonish
Oven Pride’s bag system is great for racks (always wear the gloves!). Astonish Oven and Cookware paste is another lemon-scented winner for enamel and porcelain.
PRO TIP: Try the "Grass Trick" for your wire racks! Leave them on your lawn overnight; the morning dew and moisture loosen burnt-on food so they wipe clean in the morning.
