How to Clean Cloudy Glasses | Queen of Clean
Sparkling clean glassware

Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just grabbing a glass of water, there is nothing worse than dingy glasses! You can shift that unwanted haze using simple staples you likely already have in your kitchen.

The White Vinegar Soak

Cloudiness is usually caused by calcium and magnesium from hard water. Here is how to dissolve it:

  1. Warm the Vinegar: Fill your sink with hot water and let your bottle of white vinegar soak for a minute to warm up.
  2. The Soak: Drain the sink and refill with the warm vinegar (enough to cover the glasses). Let them soak for one hour.
  3. Scrub & Rinse: Gently scrub with a non-scratch sponge and rinse with hot water until crystal clear.
  4. Dry: Use a lint-free towel or flour sack towel immediately to prevent fresh water spots.

Prevention is Key

Glassware stays clear when water isn't allowed to dry on it. While the dishwasher is easy, hand washing with washing up liquid and drying immediately is the best way to prevent the haze.

Is it Permanent?

Angle the glass toward the light. If you see shades of pink, purple, or blue, the "etching" is likely permanent and can't be brought back to life with cleaning.

PRO TIP: Never use a standard tea towel for glassware! Fibres left behind can make your glasses look dingy even when they're clean. Always stick to lint-free cloths!
