How to keep a home clean with a dog

Cleaning with Dogs | Queen of Clean
Hetty the dog

Is it possible to keep your home clean when you own a dog? Yes, it is! The key is staying organised and having the right tools to hand. From dirty paws to pet hair, here is how I keep my home pristine with Hetty.

The Entrance Strategy

Stopping dirt at the door is the easiest way to save your floors!

  • Washable Mats: Invest in spares so you can give them a weekly wash. Place them at every entrance to catch grit and mud.
  • Paw Wipes: Keep a tub of paw wipes by the door. Hetty knows to wait on the mat for a wipe before she's allowed in!
  • Waterproofs: In muddy weather, a little waterproof jacket stops the dirt from ever reaching their fur.

Grooming & Toys

Daily brushing and weekly showers make a huge difference. I use Pet Head Deodorising shampoo and a little pet fresh cologne! For toys, soak plastic ones in soapy water and pop soft toys in the washing machine.

Pet Bedding

I use a wipeable plastic bed padded with blankets. I wash the blankets regularly with Vamoosh to dissolve hair and wipe down the plastic bed daily.

PRO TIP: For accidents, use washing up liquid and water to blot (never rub!) the mess. Follow up with a splash of white vinegar and water to break down lingering odours.

Tackling Pet Hair

The Handheld Hero

As soon as I spot hair, I grab my handheld hoover. It’s the best way to stay on top of moulting without dragging out the big vacuum every hour.

Quick Fixes

Use lint rollers for your clothes and a wet rubber glove to easily lift hair off upholstery and carpets. It works like magic!
