Spend less money on your household cleaning
Cleaning your home can be expensive, but it’s not always necessary to buy all these products and spend lots of money. Buying in bulk, grabbing bargains, and making your own fantastic products from simple cupboard staples will save you time, space, and money!
My Favourite Frugal Staples
- White Vinegar: A natural disinfectant that kills germs, bacteria, and mould. Great for descaling kettles or running 100ml through your washing machine every fortnight.
- Bicarbonate of Soda: Perfect for eliminating odours in the fridge or freshening carpets (just mix with essential oils, sprinkle, and hoover after 30 mins).
- Juicy Lemons: They smell gorgeous and improve shine. Use them to remove limescale from taps, clean the dishwasher, or steam the microwave.
- White Toothpaste: Amazing for cleaning white rubber trims on trainers, polishing jewellery, or even clearing up car headlights!
Refills & Bulk Buying
Buying in large quantities is a game-changer. Use glass spray bottles to decant your bulk liquids. Always keep an eye on the supermarket bargain aisle for seasonal and end-of-line bargains!
Smart Tools
Steam Cleaning kills 99% of germs using just water, saving you the cost of floor cleaners. E-cloths might seem expensive initially, but they remove dirt using only water!
Extra Money-Saving Tips
- Alcohol: Cheap rubbing alcohol is perfect for cleaning windows inside and out, keeping them frost-free and removing pen marks.
- Essential Oils: Mix Tea Tree, Peppermint, or Lemon oils with bicarb and water for a natural disinfectant that smells relaxing.
- Laundry Hack: You can even grate a bar of Castile soap to make a fantastic, affordable laundry detergent!
PRO TIP: Mixed with white vinegar, Bicarb is a very powerful drain cleaner. If the waste is particularly dirty, this combination will bring the dirt up for you to see!
