Spider Season
How can I naturally deter spiders from my home during mating season?
Autumn is such a beautiful time of year 🍂… but it also means one thing—spider season!
If you’re suddenly spotting a few more eight-legged visitors than you’d like, don’t panic. You don’t need harsh chemicals—just a few clever, natural tricks to keep them out and your home feeling calm and cosy again
Let’s get your sanctuary protected!
1. The Minty Fresh Deterrent Barrier 🌿
This is my go-to natural spider repellent—and it really works!
Add 20 drops of peppermint oil into a glass spray bottle
✦ Peppermint Essential OilFill with water
Shake and spray around:
Window frames
Doorways
Skirting boards
Spiders actually “taste” through their legs, and they hate strong scents like peppermint so this creates a natural barrier they won’t want to cross.
For an extra boost, use a diffuser in your hallway or entry areas:
👉 Recap: A simple peppermint spray = natural, chemical-free protection that keeps spiders away while your home smells fresh.
2. Seal Up & Declutter 🏡
Home Entry Defence
Spiders are experts at sneaking in through the tiniest gaps.
Use sealant to fill cracks in walls and skirting boards
✦SealantKeep plug holes covered when not in use
✦ Sink Plug Covers
They often travel through pipes looking for warmth and moisture—so blocking those routes is key.
👉 Recap: Seal the gaps and block entry points—stop them getting in before you even need to deal with them!
Remove Hiding Spots
Spiders love:
Dark corners
Dusty areas
Cardboard boxes
Swap these for:
And keep on top of dust and webs with your vacuum:
👉 Recap: Less clutter = fewer hiding places = fewer spiders sticking around.
SMELL TIP 🍁
For a cosy autumn vibe that spiders hate:
Pop cinnamon sticks in corners
✦ Cinnamon SticksOr light a cinnamon candle
And if you’d rather not go near them at all…
👉 Recap: Make your home smell amazing while naturally keeping spiders away win-win!
3. Exterior Defence (Start Outside!) 🚪
The best way to stop spiders… is to stop them getting near your home in the first place.
Move wood piles and plant pots away from walls
Sweep patios, porches, and window sills regularly
For an extra layer of protection:
Spray your peppermint mix around outdoor lights
Spiders LOVE building webs near lights because of insects so this really helps reduce activity.
👉 Recap: Keep outdoor areas clean and treated, and you’ll massively reduce how many spiders make it inside.
Lynsey’s Final Thought 💛
Spiders might be part of the season, but they don’t need to be part of your home!
A few simple habits fresh scents, less clutter, and sealing up those gaps make all the difference.
Natural, effective, and kind… just how we like it ✨
