What are some of the dirtiest items in your home?
Everything we touch daily is covered in millions of living bacteria. While some help our immune system, others can make us really sick. Germs spread easily from person to surface, so it’s time to look at how often we should really be cleaning our everyday items!
Bedroom & Tech Germs
Your Bed
Did you know your pillowcase can contain more germs than a toilet seat? Wash bedding at least once a week, use protectors, and hoover your mattress to remove dead skin and dust mites. Don't forget to replace your mattress every seven years!
Phones & Tablets
With roughly 25,000 germs per square inch, your phone is one of the filthiest things you touch. Wipe it daily with an antibacterial spray and wash the case in warm soapy water regularly.
Kitchen & Bathroom Hygiene
Dish Cloths & Sponges
Your dishcloth is likely dirtier than your toilet flush handle! Soak it daily in bleach or an antibacterial cleaner, and pop sponges through the dishwasher to keep them fresh.
Washing Machines
Just because they use soap doesn't mean they're clean! Run an empty hot cycle weekly with white vinegar and lemon juice to kill pathogens like E.coli and remove residue.
The Overlooked TV Remote
Remotes are dropped, coughed on, and spilled on daily. Because of all the nooks and crannies, they are germ magnets. Give yours a quick wipe with an antibacterial cleaner every single day.
Personal Care
Makeup Brushes
Dirty brushes can cause outbreaks or even strep throat! Wash them weekly with baby shampoo or swirl them in olive oil to keep the bristles soft and bacteria-free.
Toothbrushes
I recommend changing your toothbrush monthly. To help keep it clean between changes, give your bathroom an intense clean once a week to lower the overall bacteria levels.
Good habits like taking your shoes off at the door and washing your hands properly make all the difference. Stay clean and stay healthy!
